WWE MASSACRE: Is it over? Probably Not...

Well, we've so far gotten through today without any more releases at WWE, but several knowledgable sources, including PWInsider's Mike Johnson and Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, have said there are still more to come...

SlamJamz will be working overtime this weekend, with several feature articles focusing on the releases, and what is in store for the future for the WWE Superstars that suddenly find themselves victims of this unprecedented massacre of the talent roster. I've been checking around and at Post-time, it appears that everyone released, with one MAJOR exception, will be covered by the standard WWE 90-day no-compete clause, so that means that most of the talent will be free to appear elsewhere as follows:

Released Tuesday, July 5 - can appear elsewhere beginning Tuesday, October 3
Released Wednesday, July 6 - can appear elsewhere beginning Wednesday, October 4

The one MAJOR exception to this rule could be Bubba and D-Von Dudley, who were not released in the traditional sense, but who's contract is coming to an end, and for whatever reason (most likely money) WWE chose not to renew negotiations with the pair. This SHOULD mean that the Dudley's would be free to go anywhere they choose on the day after their contract runs out, which is believed to be in early August. I say SHOULD because I have not recieved confirmation on this as yet, but that is the way contracts have worked in the past where WWE has been concerned.

Over the course of the next several days, I will be posting a multi-part analysis of the entire situation. This will appear both in my weekly PWInsider column as well as some exclusive outlooks and insights here on SlamJamz.

I had already been preparing a 2-part look at how TNA needs to redefine and recalibrate itself to prepare for its future. In addition to that article, which is now being revised a bit due to the WWE cuts, I will also be looking at the impact that the WWE releases could have on TNA's process for moving forward.

It is my opinion that the WWE's strategy of ruthless releases as a so-called cost cutting measure - even as they prepare to spend millions to bring Brock Lesnar back into the fold - will end up backfiring - perhaps even catastrophically- on the WWE, and will benefit TNA in ways they cannot even fathom at the moment. I'll go into detail about what I mean this weekend.

Stay tuned to SlamJamz Central over the next few days as we begin to sort out what's going on and sort through the fallout of the biggest short-term talent purge in WWE history.
