INSIDER: New Article online

Part one of this weekend's PWInsider column went up over there earlier this afternoon. In it I take a look at the WWE Massacre victims and what the potential is for them in the other major players, the indies, and Japan.

Part two will be up at PWInsider.com tomorrow, and will cover some pretty controversial stuff - it's my blueprint for making sure TNA does NOT mess up the gift Vince McMahon has given them. It's going to be pretty blunt in some areas, as I intend to tell TNA exactly WHY they are a colossal FAILURE thus far, and WHAT they need to do about it to survive. You won't want to miss it.

I've given Dave Scherer the option of not running the column if he feels it could get him into trouble 0- as I said it's VERY controversial - and once he lets me know his decision, I'll let you know.

Both parts of the Insider article will be posted on SlamJamz sometime on Monday or Tuesday, unless Dave does decline to run part two, in which case they'll both be available here on Sunday.

Stay tuned to SlamJamz for all the latest concerning the Massacre and its aftermath.

OVW: Cornette fired by WWE for slapping incident

PWInsider.Com is reporting that Jim Cornette has been dismissed from his position as head trainer at Ohio Valley Wrestling over the incident this past Wednesday where Cornette slapped an OVW trainee several times after the student, sitting in the audience, laughed instead of acting scared of OVW Talent The Boogyman.

I know i'm showing my age, but this whole incident reminds me of when OSU's Woody Hayes socked one of his football players in the face after blowing a play in a Bowl game; Hayes was gone the next day, fired after 20+ years as OSU coach.

WWE MASSACRE: WWE callously asked released stars for comments for the WWE Website

In what has to be one of the worst cases of callous cruelty i've ever seen, WWE has asked the talent it has just released to give them statements on how they feel about being released for posting on the WWE Website.

Never in my life have I EVER seen such out-and-out arrogance from an organization. Here are 16 entertainment personalities who have just found out that they're being fired as part of "cost-cutting measures" for whatever real reason. Then, less than 24 hours later, the organization donig the firing calls the same personalities up and says "Gee, how do you feel now that we've fired you? We need a comment for our website, so the fans will know your feelings."

Have you EVER seen such arrogance? Such out and out cruelty? WWE should be ASHAMED of itself for pulling such a crass, insanely hurtful stunt.

One good thing...doing some checking around, a couple of my sources are telling me that when he was reached for comments on his own release, Billy Kidman had the kahones to tell WWE something along the lines of "go f**k yourself"....which was then translated on the WWE Website as "Kidman declined our request for a comment". If it's true, kudos to Kidman to express the true feelings of most of the massacred talent. YOU GO BOY!

Don't forget, SlamJamz Central will be doing an indepth analysis of the releases and what the future could hold for them, as well as TNA's possible gains and why it could propel TNA into a position they very much want to be in, this weekend. I am writing a two-part article that should be appearing in my usual weekly column for PWInsider, as well as a few extra things that will appear EXCLUSIVELY here on SlamJamz, so you will want to keep an eye out this weekend. Because of the length of these articles and the time it is taking to get them ready for publication, SlamJamz' comical Friday feature, Separated At Birth, will be pre-empted this week, and should return next Friday, barring any further abomnable acts by the WWE.

Without a doubt, this has been one of the most painful weeks for wrestling fans i've ever seen, and it won't soon be forgotten by the fans of those wrestlers who were a part of the massacre. SlamJamz will continue to cover any story stemming from the massive bloodletting at the WWE, so keep checking in right here several times a day for the latest news.

WWE MASSACRE: Is it over? Probably Not...

Well, we've so far gotten through today without any more releases at WWE, but several knowledgable sources, including PWInsider's Mike Johnson and Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, have said there are still more to come...

SlamJamz will be working overtime this weekend, with several feature articles focusing on the releases, and what is in store for the future for the WWE Superstars that suddenly find themselves victims of this unprecedented massacre of the talent roster. I've been checking around and at Post-time, it appears that everyone released, with one MAJOR exception, will be covered by the standard WWE 90-day no-compete clause, so that means that most of the talent will be free to appear elsewhere as follows:

Released Tuesday, July 5 - can appear elsewhere beginning Tuesday, October 3
Released Wednesday, July 6 - can appear elsewhere beginning Wednesday, October 4

The one MAJOR exception to this rule could be Bubba and D-Von Dudley, who were not released in the traditional sense, but who's contract is coming to an end, and for whatever reason (most likely money) WWE chose not to renew negotiations with the pair. This SHOULD mean that the Dudley's would be free to go anywhere they choose on the day after their contract runs out, which is believed to be in early August. I say SHOULD because I have not recieved confirmation on this as yet, but that is the way contracts have worked in the past where WWE has been concerned.

Over the course of the next several days, I will be posting a multi-part analysis of the entire situation. This will appear both in my weekly PWInsider column as well as some exclusive outlooks and insights here on SlamJamz.

I had already been preparing a 2-part look at how TNA needs to redefine and recalibrate itself to prepare for its future. In addition to that article, which is now being revised a bit due to the WWE cuts, I will also be looking at the impact that the WWE releases could have on TNA's process for moving forward.

It is my opinion that the WWE's strategy of ruthless releases as a so-called cost cutting measure - even as they prepare to spend millions to bring Brock Lesnar back into the fold - will end up backfiring - perhaps even catastrophically- on the WWE, and will benefit TNA in ways they cannot even fathom at the moment. I'll go into detail about what I mean this weekend.

Stay tuned to SlamJamz Central over the next few days as we begin to sort out what's going on and sort through the fallout of the biggest short-term talent purge in WWE history.

WWE MASSACRE: Spike Dudley Speaks

Spike Dudley has released a statement about his WWE release, and boy does he let them have it...

First, yes I'm gone from the WWE. Does it sting? Hell, yeah. Especially since I've always been one of their "model" employees. It makes sense that I was released, I don't bitch, moan, groan or suck. I just didn't fit in with what the WWE puts on tv. No, I'm only kidding(but not really). It was my turn and that's the nature of the beast. The WWE is a sinking ship. Cursed by owning 100% of the industry, I can see how they couldn't afford my outrageous salary in these times of number crunching. Hey, they gave me a great opportunity and maybe I didn't make the most of it. That's life. At first I was pissed, but I woke up this morning feeling, I don't know, alive.

Read the entire statement by going to Spike's website, which has already been reactivated and is ready for your visits! The address is www.spikedudley.net

WWE MASSACRE: And the bloodletting continues...

Well, it's been just over 24 hours since the first cuts (with the exception of Marc Loyd, which was announced last week) were made, and three more have been added to the list since I last updated this afternoon:

Kenzo Suzuki
Hiroko
Joy Giovanni

Depending on who you're listening to, there could be more - possibly MANY more - to come.

Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer implies, in his plug for his newsletter this week, that "one talent cut this past week that has still not been announced" might be a real unexpected name, perhaps even one that is a "name" star with WWE...

Speculation will no doubt run rampant as to who that will be .

We continue to cover the entire genocidal massacre of WWE talent right here on SlamJamz, and will have a full analysis of what could be in store for those cut this weekend.

BULLETIN: WWE Cuts continue even as new hires are announced

In what has to be the most crass example of slapping someone in the face, WWE has announced the following cuts:

Matt Morgan
Bubba Dudley
D-Von Dudley
Charlie Haas
Jackie Gayda
Dawn Marie
Marty Jannetty

All of these cuts are coming while they announce they have hired, of all people, Big Vito, and are in talks for the turncoat of all wrestling turncoats, Brock Lesnar, to return to the fold.

The TOTAL lack of tact in this absolutely ASTOUNDS me. Cutting a pair of newlyweds along with a pregnant woman is absolutely the lowest form of low. I wonder how much further WWE's talent-relations will sink?

This brings the total number of cuts so far to 16, 13 wrestlers, 2 divas, and announcer Marc Loyd, that affects talent-based operations.

Ok, so just go ahead and announce the cuts of Josh Mathews, Shane Helms, and Matt Capotelli from OVW...then I can honestly say I have NO reason whatsoever to watch WWE programming anymore...

More as WWE continues to announce further cuts. Watch for a complete analysis of the cuts and what they could mean to other organizations coming in the next day or two.

BULLETIN: WWE Cuts 6 Superstars as the Purge Begins...

WWE announced a couple weeks back that many cuts among staff would be made as a cost-cutting measure as WWE prepares to jump back to the USA Network this fall from Spike TV; USA is selling the advertising for future shows for WWE, which means WWE loses that revenue.

And so...the purge begins....

WWE announced this afternoon that it had cut 6 performers from it's roster:

Billy Kidman
Shannon Moore
Akio
Maven
Gangrel
Mark Jindrak

These are in addition to announcer Marc Loyd, who was cut last week.

We'll have more analysis of the cuts, and what the futures could hold for the top four performers listed later on this week. Keep checking with SlamJamz Central for the latest cuts and news about each performers' future plans.

ADDITION TO ORIGINAL POSTING

Just hours after announcing the first list of cuts yesterday, WWE added two more names to the list of roster cuts:

Spike Dudley (Matt Hyson)
Mordecai (Kevin Fertig)

That brings the total number of cuts to nine so far, 8 wrestlers and announcer Marc Loyd.

Stay tuned to SlamJamz Central for all the up-to-date news and continued analysis on all the WWE Roster cuts.

WWE: WELL, THE RACE CARD IS ON....AGAIN....

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Fourth of July. It was actually comfortable in the Boston area for the Fourth, which is highly unusual...the holiday usually brings some of our hottest weather with it.

Just to warn readers before I head into my latest harangue...there are Smackdown Spoilers contained within. You've been warned...

It's a shame when in the year 2005, WWE has to go to the lowest common denominator - playing the race card - in an attempt to get a decent performer over. Why in this day in age is this kind of angle necessary? Yes, I know some of you are saying "But it's WRESTLING - they've ALWAYS done racial angles!". That may be true, but isn't it time we grew up?

No, apparently not.

Just look at the WWE currently. Here are the various angles i'm talking about.

--Former WWE champion JBL. Here's a racist at heart who isn't afraid to goosestep and give the Hitler salute when in Germany who also happens to treat his Chief of Staff, Orlando Jordan, like a gopher and who isn't above playing the race card when Orlando has a big match where a loss could embarrass JBL...

--Three former WCW and ECW Superstars - Juventud Guerrera, Super Crazy, and Psicosis - make their debut on Smackdown, coming to the ring to decry stereotypes against Mexicans...dressed in landscaper overalls and riding lawn mowers, or as they called them, "mexican limousines". The following week, they say that most Mexicans aren't as good as they are, and that they are no longer Mexicans, but "Mexicools", thereby declaring their own offshoot of their race...

--Chavo Guerrero, traded to Raw, has an interview with Maria in which he blames the hispanic people for making it impossible for a hispanic performer like himself to get over with the fans, because, "we all know how Americans feel about hispanics!" Dressed in the most yuppie clothes he could possibly wear and no doubt giving Queer Eye's Carson Kressly nightmares, and sporting his new shiny chromedome, Chavo announces that he's renouncing his latino heritage and has legally changed his name to Kerwin White...which for the uninformed out there, the name Kerwin means "Black" in Old Gaelic, so Chavo Guerrero is now "Black White"....

--Visera has spent the past several weeks chasing ring announcer Lilian Garcia, who finally succumbs to the big man's charms, only to have him spurn Lilian's wedding proposal to have a chance to hang with the Godfather and his "Ho Train"...leaving poor Lillian heartbroken...and idiots like the Heartthrobs to play up the race card even further by saying he wasn't her type and that they'll make her forget all about Visera by the time they're finished with him...which, of course, they don't, but they seem totally obilvious to that fact...

--And in the longest-running, most spectacular use of the race card, Mohammad Hassan and Davari, who WWE has made a fact of life that they're heels because they're "Arab American", have been subjected to humilation after humilation because of that fact, culminating in Stone Cold Steve Austin calling them "Sand People" a few weeks ago on RAW. And any semblance of this being a legitimate angle involving the american people's perception of Arab Americans in a post 9/11 world, as WWE's Parents site claimed when the pair first made their debut, goes out the window this week on Smackdown when, after Davari gets pounded by the Undertaker in just 20 seconds, Hassan sends out a group of five men dressed in black clothes and black face masks - what one person attending Smackdown tapings called a "terror cell" - to put a beatdown on Taker and then carry Davari back to the locker room holding him above their heads in a fashion designed to signify that Davari has become a martyr for their cause.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there have been plenty other examples in recent weeks. But my whole point is this: Isn't it scary, in the year 2005, that the WWE creative team puts its collective heads together, and these are the BEST angles they can come up with for very talented non-caucasian performers? And the poor caucasian bastards who are forced to be the cause of the trouble?

Now, to be fair, there ARE people who seem to be immune to the race card; Eddie Guerrero and Rey Misterio, and also Booker T, on Smackdown, and Shelton Benjamin and Carlito Caribbean Cool on Raw. They haven't played up race with these characters, or if they have, it's not been overly obvious and hasn't lasted long, with the possible exception of Carlito's name, which isn't mentioned in full much anymore, now rather serving as his slogan, as in "Carlito? Now THATS Caribbean Cool!".

But seriously, with the way WWE Creative apparently does business, how much longer will it be before we see a return of Booker T's "GI Bro" character, or before Stephanie and company suddenly decide that Carlito, one of the WWE's most promising prospects for the future right now, needs to grease his hair down and come to the ring with a toothpick between his teeth?

Isn't it time we just GREW UP?

Message to Vince and Stephanie McMahon: Get your Creative act together. NOW. Because I'm FED UP with the racial stereotypes and racial motivated storylines. To use a "Network" metaphor, I'm MAD AS HELL and I'm not going to take it anymore! You people calling yourselves "creative" writers is a SLAP IN THE FACE to every truly good writer out there. You should be ashamed of peddling such garbage, and until such time as you decide to actually come up with something truly creative, i'm gonna be all over your ass about your lame angles, your racist storylines, and the general state of what you're doing. Because lately, it's SUCKED. Big Time. And It will be my distinct pleasure to tell you, and the rest of the internet community of wrestling fans, so. Constantly.

Don't say you weren't warned.....
